John P. Kujawski
Mr. Kujawski was born March 20, 1948 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He attended St. Louis University and in 1970 received his A.B. in Arts and Science. In 1973, Mr. Kujawski received his J.D. from St. Louis University Law School. He is admitted to practice in the following states: Illinois, Missouri and Nebraska. In addition, he is also admitted to the U.S. District Courts in the Southern District of Illinois and the Southern District of Indiana.
After graduation from law school, Mr. Kujawski worked for the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office and a plaintiff’s firm in East St. Louis, Illinois. In 1980, he established the law firm of Kujawski & Associates, P.C. in Belleville, Illinois. Currently based in O'Fallon, Illinois, the firm specializes in the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA), Illinois and Missouri Workers' Compensation, medical malpractice, product's liability, maritime negligence and general negligence.
In addition to the O'Fallon location, the firm has a staffed office in North Little Rock, Arkansas and a large practice in St. Louis, Missouri and throughout the entire Midwest. Mr. Kujawski has also appeared in the state and federal court systems of approximately 15 other states in the representation of his clients.
John Kujawski is a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 520. His father, Charlie, was also a member and has since retired. As a result, he is committed to the principles for which Organized Labor stands and provides the highest quality of representation to workers and their families who find themselves in need of legal assistance.
The law firm enjoys the highest legal rating attainable, that of an (AV) rating as determined by Martindale-Hubbell, a national rating agency overseeing attorneys.
The principal work conducted by Mr. Kujawski and his firm is the representation of injured workers, car accident victims, people injured by defective products and those hurt by medical malpractice. Mr. Kujawski has participated in building a national reputation in handling catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases on behalf of injured workers and individuals.
He is nationally recognized for his legal work in representing railroad workers and industrial workers injured by traumatic accidents, toxic substances, and products liability. He pioneered litigation in the field of hearing loss on behalf of injured railroad workers and obtained the first large class settlement against the Illinois Central Railroad on behalf of workers who sustained occupational hearing loss.
Mr. Kujawski has also lead the way in the field of railroad litigation in holding short-line railroads accountable under the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA). Mr. Kujawski was co-founder of the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys and has served in various offices on behalf of that organization, including past president. He has been a member of Local 520 of the International Union of Operating Engineers and retains his status as an active member of that union. He is a charter member of the Designated Attorneys for the International Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers, a charter member of the Designated Attorneys for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, past chairman of the Designated Legal Counsel for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen and Designated Attorneys for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Designated Attorney for the American Train Dispatchers Association, Designated Attorney for Sheet Metal Workers' International Association, and Designated Attorney for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers - Iron Ship Builders - Forgers & Helpers.
He has obtained multiple verdicts in excess of $1 million and limits his practice to representing plaintiffs who have been seriously injured or killed in traumatic accidents or as a result of defective products.
He has been called upon as an expert witness by other members of the legal profession and as a consultant to other firms on issues involving complex litigation.
Mr. Kujawski was appointed by Chief Justice Moses W. Harrison as a Commissioner to the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission in December 2000 and has held that position until his term expires in December of 2009.
